FeaturesImprovements

What's new:

Public changelog

  • Moved the real changelog experience to /Updates as a standalone public page.
  • Changed /app/updates into a redirect so old links still land on the public Updates page.
  • Removed the app sidebar from the changelog view so the page reads like a product updates site.

Reference structure

  • Updated the Continuous Innovation copy to describe SpeakDoch, germanOS, learning tools, performance improvements, and fixes.

How to use it:

  • Open /Updates directly to read the public changelog.

FeaturesImprovements

Release page

  • Rebuilt the What's new page around dark release cards, filters, stats, and version sections.
  • Moved each release into simple What's new and How to use it sections so the copy stays clear.

Release automation

  • Added a GitHub workflow that can create a draft entry after product pushes.
  • Added a local Codex skill note so future pushes know where the updates system lives.

How to use it:

  • Open the version link in the bottom of the sidebar to see the latest release notes.
  • Use /Updates when sharing the changelog directly.
  • After a product push, the GitHub workflow can add a draft release note unless the push already includes a manual one.

Version 2.0.0

Books and Finder arrive in germanOS:

germanOS now has a real Books workspace and a Finder-style file browser for opening apps, books, media, and documents.

FeaturesImprovementsFixes

What's new:

Books on the desktop

  • Added Books as a germanOS desktop app with the wooden shelf and EPUB reader from /dev/books-test.
  • Added Books to the Apps workspace list above the video tools for direct navigation.
  • Switched Books to the ryOS book icon so the desktop and sidebar match the source style.

Finder browser

  • Added Finder as a desktop app and workspace with brushed-metal toolbar styling from ryOS.
  • Added navigable Applications, Documents, Books, Movies, Music, Podcasts, Reader, and Trash folders.
  • Finder can switch icon/list views, search contents, and open matching germanOS apps from Applications and file entries.

Window controls

  • Fixed desktop window traffic-light controls so resize hit targets no longer cover close, minimize, or zoom buttons.
  • Verified Books and Finder launch from the germanOS desktop window layer.

How to use it:

  • Open germanOS from the sidebar, then open Books or Finder from the desktop.
  • In Finder, open Applications and double-click Books, TV, Music, Karaoke, Podcasts, Reader, or Settings.
  • Open Books to continue Meditations from the wooden shelf and use the reader controls for longer sessions.

Version 1.4.0

germanOS desktop and background settings:

The desktop workspace now has its own germanOS route, visible Settings, and live wallpaper controls.

FeaturesImprovements

What's new:

Desktop identity

  • App Library is now germanOS, with /app/german-os as the canonical route.
  • The older /app/library URL still works as a legacy alias, so existing links keep opening the desktop.
  • The sidebar now separates germanOS from Apps, leaving Library free for music, books, songs, and saved media later.

Settings and wallpaper

  • Added a Settings icon on the desktop that opens System Preferences.
  • Connected the desktop to wallpaper preferences, including local photo and video wallpapers.
  • Added the blue flowers video wallpaper as the default background for the first germanOS pass.

Navigation

  • Updated sidebar, topbar, metadata, and canonical links to point at germanOS.
  • Added this changelog page so every push can leave a visible product trail.

How to use it:

  • Open germanOS from the sidebar or go directly to /app/german-os.
  • Click Settings on the desktop to change the wallpaper and desktop appearance.
  • Use the version link in the sidebar footer to come back to these release notes.

First storyboard desktop port:

The first slice of the storyboard desktop moved into the app workspace with the core miniapp launchers.

Features

Miniapp launchers

  • Added desktop entries for TV, Music, Karaoke, Podcasts, and Reader.
  • Kept the miniapp links available as focused workspaces for direct navigation.
  • Prepared the shell for more miniapps as the port continues.

Window shell

  • Brought over the desktop window layer so apps can open inside a familiar workspace.
  • Kept direct app pages available for focused practice sessions.

How to use it:

  • Open germanOS and use the desktop icons to launch TV, Music, Karaoke, Podcasts, or Reader.
  • Use the Apps list in the sidebar when you want a focused workspace instead of a floating desktop window.

Version 1.2.0

Practice sidebar refresh:

The workspace sidebar was reorganized around German practice areas and repeatable miniapp routes.

Improvements

What's new:

Workspace structure

  • Split speaking practice from app tools so learners can scan the navigation faster.
  • Grouped video, audio, lyrics, listening, and reading tools under Apps.
  • Kept Dashboard as the home base for starting a session.

How to use it:

  • Use Dashboard for the starting point.
  • Use Speak for guided conversation and Apps for video, audio, lyrics, listening, and reading tools.
